About Pediatric Dentistry

Introducing you to the world of Pediatric dentistry one smile at a time in Old Tappan, New Jersey. From the simplest of dental care including dental cleanings, x-rays, fluoride & examinations to more complex dentistry as well.

It is recommended by the American Dental Association, as well as Dr. Mattia and her associates, that children visit us twice a year in 6 month intervals. Parents are highly encouraged to schedule an appointment within 6 months of their child’s first baby tooth eruption, or by the age of 1! Regular check-ups will assist in preventing cavities and monitoring oral health continuously as well as keeping your child’s smile beautiful.

Pediatric Dental Procedures

We always encourage patients to brush, floss, and rinse to promote proper home care, as well as recommend healthy eating habits. Unfortunately, healthy habits at home and prevention isn’t always completely successful. When decay is present Dr. Mattia and her team can provide many different treatment options such as restorative, extractions and space maintenance. For added comfort we provide nitrous oxide or what we call “ice cream air” to help provide your child with a positive dental experience. From your first consultation with our office Dr. Mattia and her associates will be happy to thoroughly explain your child’s individualized treatment plan. Dr. Mattia and her team will discuss all options and make sure your questions are answered. We strive to provide a conservative yet comprehensive approach.

Preventive Pediatric Dental Treatments

To ensure that your child is equipped with the best defense against cavities, we apply fluoride varnish to their teeth at their routine dental check up as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Unfortunately, since Rockland County, NY and Bergen County, NJ do not have fluoride added to their water supply, this creates an important need to ensure your child is provided with a fluoride supplement. Dr. Mattia & her associates will provide a prescription for fluoride vitamins as well. This prescription is age dependent and would be discussed at your child’s appointment. As an additional mechanism of prevention, dental sealants may also be recommended. Sealants are a protective coating placed on the biting surface of predominately permanent molars to help prevent the development of decay.
